Meet Our North East Heights Teachers

Ms. Joy – Director

Ms. Joy has worked with Covenant Schools for the past 17 years and spent 14 years of that time as the director of the Rio Rancho child care center. Joy moved to the Albuquerque location in 2015. She uses her background in Elementary Education/ Special Education and her degree in Early Childhood Education, and Program Administration from CNM to make Covenant Schools one of the best childcare centers in the state of New Mexico.

For Ms. Joy working at Covenant Schools is so much more than a job, it’s a passion and a calling. She works hard to keep a positive and friendly environment where staff and students are happy and excited to come to school every day. Ms. Joy does all that she can to make sure that Covenant Schools is always giving 110% to the care of your child so that your expectations are always met and exceeded. She is a certified instructor for Mind in the Making: The Science of Child Development course and was previously the President of the New Mexico Child Care Association.

Ms. Connie – Assistant Director

Ms. Connie has 26 years of experience in the childcare field as both a teacher and a cook. She came to Covenant Schools when it opened in June of 2000 as the cook. Ms. Connie really enjoyed her years spent in the kitchen as cooking is a passion of hers and it also gave her the opportunity to spend time with the children throughout the day.

Seeing Connie’s self-motivation and organizational skills would be an asset to Covenants administration staff and families, Ms. Connie was promoted to Assistant Director in December of 2012. Ms. Connie accepted the position of Assistant Director to pursue a career in management and to continue to make a differences in the lives of children. Ms. Connie has completed her National Administrators credential for Early Childhood.

Having Ms. Autumn as part of the Covenant Schools administration staff has brought a bubbly, hardworking and even keeled personality to the team. Ms. Autumn has worked as a teacher in a school aged program before coming to Covenant Schools for two years.

Ms. Autumn is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies and English and has plans to graduate in 2018.

Ms. Loretta – Infants

Ms. Loretta came to Covenant Schools after spending almost twenty years as a home-schooling teacher of three. She has worked in the infant room at Covenant Schools since 2006. She has several years’ experience working with children from infants to school age.

Ms. Loretta has achieved her Child Development certificate through CNM. Ms. Loretta provides loving care for each of the infants in the room, developing schedules that are best suited for each individual child. Ms. Loretta’s enthusiasm for creative learning is reflected in her desire to implement new ideas in the classroom, whether it be through sign language, art, music or sensory.

Ms. Selena – Infants

Ms. Selena has been the greatest addition to Covenant School’s staff and most specifically the infant classroom. She is nurturing, soft-spoken, kind and gentle. Selena has a calming demeanor that brings peace to the babies, parents and her co-workers.

Ms. Selena has an associate’s degree from CNM. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from UNM in Psychology, and expects to graduate in 2018. From there Ms. Selena will go on to receive her Master’s degree.

Ms. Estrella – Infants

Sent to us from Ohio, Ms. Estrella is the newest addition to our infant classroom. Estrella was studying cosmetology when she realized that she wanted to change careers. She sees the children as the next generation to make a difference and wants to be a part of that dynamic in their lives and our society.

Ms. Estrella has gone back to school this semester to pursue a Child Development certificate. Her proactive and motivated personality is a perfect fit to the classroom.

Ms. Debbie – Toddlers

Ms. Debbie has been teaching at Covenant Schools for almost eight years. Ms. Debbie believes that even though the children are under the age of two, they are like sponges and have the ability to absorb a wide spectrum of learning.

Language Development is a foundational key to education in the toddler classroom. Ms. Debbie instills a structured setting so the children have the highest continuity of care. She teaches them a variety of academics such as, numbers in English and Spanish, colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, sign language and social skills.

Ms. Elizabeth – Two B

Ms. Elizabeth has worked for Covenant Schools since 2008. She enjoys working with two year olds and has infinite patience and love for them. Ms. Elizabeth is dedicated to her students and wants to see them learn and thrive. She builds a genuine relationship with the parents and believes that the home is the child’s first teacher.

Ms. Elizabeth displays God’s love to the students in her class and works above and beyond to meet all their needs. Ms. Elizabeth graduated with her Child Development certificate and is one of the few in her family to go to college. She worked hard and was diligent to achieve her goals.

Ms. Pam – Preschool Beginner A

Ms. Pam has been teaching three-year olds at Covenant Schools for the past 5 years. Having received her preschool certification in 2008, she is now working on completing her Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Multicultural Education later this year.  Ms. Pam believes that each child is a unique individual with different backgrounds, interests and strengths. By uncovering the way that each child learns best, she helps children discover their individuality while enabling them to excel academically.

A typical day in Ms. Pam’s class is well-structured while making use of hands-on activities and playtime that encourage kids to use their imaginations and be creative. In Ms. Pam’s class, children will learn basic sign language in addition to mastering the skills they need to be successful in primary school.
