PRE KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM RIO RANCHO
OUR PRE-KINDERGARTEN ADVANCED CLASS HELPS YOUR CHILD PREPARE FOR KINDERGARTEN AND BEYOND!
At Covenant Schools, our pre-kindergarten curriculum programs are part of our mission to help students acquire the education and skills they will need in kindergarten and beyond. Our students begin learning crucial skills in our beginner class.
Once they advance to our pre-kindergarten class, our curriculum ensures that they will begin mastering those skills that will help them succeed in elementary-school-level reading, writing, and math.
WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN PRE-KINDERGARTEN?
At Covenant Schools, our Pre-Kindergarten program is designed to prepare four and five-year-olds for a successful transition into elementary school. We focus on building a strong academic foundation, knowing that the more prepared a child is, the better they will do in school. Using the ABEKA curriculum, we teach core subjects like math, reading, and letters through age-appropriate, hands-on lessons that keep learning fun and engaging. Our interactive workbooks are paired with music and activities to help children stay focused and excited to learn.
Throughout the year, children develop key skills such as counting to 100, recognizing numbers 1–20, and solving simple math problems. Our curriculum also includes plenty of time for art, music, dance, and creative play—because we believe learning should be balanced with fun and exploration. During the summer, our special Pre-K program features exciting themed activities like cooking, science experiments, drama, camping, sports, splash days, and more.
At Covenant Schools, we offer a structured yet flexible environment where children can grow academically, socially, and creatively—while staying true to their unique personalities.
READING PROGRAM
At Covenant Schools, our reading program begins as early as age two, using a unique phonics-based approach that helps children learn to read as they learn to speak. Every preschooler participates in specialized reading circles, each focused on a key aspect of reading development. As children master one level, they move to the next at their own pace, allowing for personalized growth.
Our program starts with the basics—vowel and consonant sounds—then builds to blends and simple words, creating a natural and enjoyable path to literacy. As a result, most of our preschoolers are reading before kindergarten, and our kindergarten graduates typically read at a second-grade level. This strong literacy foundation also supports growth in math skills and character development, helping each child reach their full potential.
