How to Prepare Your Child For the First Day of School

Boy child with father

Their first day of school is going to be filled with new stressors: less time with loved ones, structured schedules, and a classroom of strangers. Don’t know where to begin on prepping your child for their first day of school? Our preschool childcare professionals in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho have got you covered!

In spite of the best preparation, your child may still struggle with the jilt of a totally new environment. Long school days, transitions between activities, and focusing their attention for long periods of time will probably be stressful actions for a short period of time, but the better you prepare your child the easier they will adjust to their new life.

How can I get my child ready for their new schedule?

Dropping your child into a new routine with no forethought may lead to disruptive behavior and acting-out while in the classroom, so beginning their new schedule in advance of the big day will lead to a well-adjusted student. Establish routines with your child by allotting time for bed, family meals, and for reading. Routine will introduce stability into their life which is paramount to their development as self-confident people entering school.
