Choosing the right preschool or childcare program for your child is of utmost importance. Finding a school that will provide the care you seek for your child and prepare them for elementary school can be a challenge. At Covenant Schools, we believe that it is important to meet each child’s needs for physical, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual growth. Our program is structured to provide the best possible early childhood care and education within a setting that promotes Christian values and living. Below is a brief outline of what our Rio Rancho preschool program looks like.
Structure
Children function best and are most comfortable in an organized and structured program. They always like to know what takes place next. It is their way of telling time and keeping track of the day’s events. For this reason, the program at Covenant Schools’ preschool in Rio Rancho, New Mexico flows in a predictable manner. This enables children to always know what will take place next.
Activities
Children have short attention spans, but love repetition. Knowing this, the daily program at our Rio Rancho, New Mexico preschool is divided into short repetitive periods of instruction intertwined with games, poems, singing and storytelling to retain each child’s interest and attention. This takes place in an enjoyable setting without pressure. Each day, children will do two or three different activity papers during class. These are evaluated and then sent home so the parents can monitor the daily progress of their child.
Homework
Homework is sent home periodically so parents can have an active part in their child’s learning experience. For those who return the completed work to school the next day, recognition is given for a job well done.
Reading Circles
Every child at our preschool in Rio Rancho, NM attends specialized reading circles. Here, they are taught how to read phonetically. Each circle emphasizes a particular aspect of reading. As they master the skills taught in one circle they advance to the next level. This highly successful method enables each child to progress at an individually established pace.
Rest Time
After lunch, all preschool children have a quiet rest or nap period. The school will provide a cot/mat for each child during this time. A small blanket or stuffed animal may be brought from home as long as it fits in the child’s cubby. Some children may need sleep; others may only need to rest. Children who do not sleep must rest quietly and may have a book to read.
Discipline
A positive system of praise, encouragement and rewards is the standard practice. If any further action is needed, it will consist of a warning, a supervised time out, and, if necessary, a note or call home.
